Description & Requirements
The successful candidate will play a key role in a growing team of professionals who assist clients with all aspects of governmental accounting and finance. Our client organizations are State and Local governments and institutions of higher education that follow the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). The nature and extent of the services provided to our GOAS clients will vary, as will the individual career development and work opportunities for the successful candidate. How you will contribute:
- Participate and support projects that assist government finance departments in preparing for their annual audit
- Perform bank reconciliations, pension and post-employment benefit accruals, lease and subscription-based information technology arrangements, capital asset tracking and depreciation, and other annual accounting entries
- Assist in assessments of client's finance-related internal controls and make recommendations for improvement
- Assist in the implementation of new GASB standards
- Assist in the drafting of annual comprehensive financial reports using the firms in-house web-based platform
We are looking for people with Forward Vision and:
- Aptitude to take care of and prioritize multiple client projects, including monitoring project time budgets and consistently meeting or exceeding agreed-upon target dates
- Advanced computer skills and the propensity to learn new software related to the accounting function of an organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Critical thinking techniques, combined with practical judgment, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills
- Knowledge of how to communicate both up and downstream to team staff and exercise judgment in assessing client interactions
- High attention to detail as well as strong analytical skills
- Ability to travel as needed (to client locations, Forvis Mazars practice offices and/or conferences)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field
- 2 years or more of accounting, and/or consulting experience within the public sector including financial statement preparation knowledge
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA and CFE certification, prior public accounting and municipal finance experience
